How to Perform a Major Version Upgrade on Bluefin
I’ve been a happy Project Bluefin user for several weeks. I was excited to read the official announcement that the underlying Fedora OS has had a major version upgrade. I have gone through the upgrade process, and wanted to document it as a “HowTo”, as there aren’t many out there for the small Bluefin community.
Many years of using and updating other Linux distributions such as Ubuntu have taught me to hope for the best but prepare for the worst when performing a major version update. There are so many possible snags, threats and failures. I’m now quite adept at scouring my list of sources with a fine-tooth comb to pick out errant packages which may block a clean update. I devour release notes for documented pitfalls and gotchas.
With that in mind, here is my recommended approach to updating Project Bluefin. I’ll go through it step by step. Rather than follow along immediately, it would be best if you read the whole document first of all to understand the concepts, then drill down into the specifics of each stage. Preparation is everything!
